Funding the Culture House
MMCC’s Culture House for Children is located just outside
the center of Kabul near the high mountains. The area, Kart-e-Se
is on the midway to Darolaman – the former royal palace west
of the capital.
Since January 2004 part of the expenses are covered by Danida -
Danish governmental NGO-support.
On top of that a myriad of donators big and small are funding activities,
meals and equipment in the house and we are continuously looking
for sponsors. Do anyone happen to have two mini ponys they can ship
to Afghanistan?
December 2003:
Danida secures MMCC long term
The aid organisation of the Danish Government, Danida, has granted
MMCC approximately $120,000 over two years.
The grant secures a long term financial base for MMCC and is given
for organisational development and the build-up of a democratic
structure for the activities in Afghanistan.
November 2003:
UNHCR/InterSOS sets off the Culture house
The start up of the Culture House for Children was made possible
by financial supported by UNHCR via InterSOS - an Italian NGO.
July 2003:
MMCC visits Denmark
10-year-old Fardin and 16-year old Wais have been invited to join
the Images of Asia festival in Denmark in August 2003.
MMCC leader David Mason will be travelling with them and together
they will meet Danish children and tell them about life in Afghanistan.
Wais will paint portraits of the guests and Fardin will introduce
them to Afghan childrens games and show other examples of his skills.
December 2002:
$ 13.000 from DCCD in Denmark
In December MMCC received its largest donation so far of DKK 90.000
($ 13.000) from the Danish Center for Cultural cooperation with
Developing coutries (DCCD).
So far MMCC has received about 25.000 $ from different sources,
the majority collected by the Danish support group. This has secured
the upstart of the project and its activities until summer 2003.
Further needed is the financing of the bus, which will make MMCC
truly mobile and able to reach all parts of Afghanistan.
